This is an authentic antique map of the world by Matthias Seutter. The map was published in Augsberg circa 1735.

This is a striking double-hemisphere map of the world surrounded by 8 smaller maps of varying projections and four scientific diagrams. Filling in the spaces between the maps are over 20 wind heads that pay homage to the earlier world maps of the 1500s. Within the main world map, routes of early explorers and dated of various discoveries are noted.

Within the overwhelming detail of the map are several geographic delineations worth noting. In the western hemisphere, California is shown as an island; an expansive northwestern coast of America is left completely blank; and a western New Zealand coastline is notes one of the last few discoveries left in the world. The eastern hemisphere features an Australian continent beginning to take shape, an early coast of Tasmania, and a Japan with a size and shape that leaves one scratching their head. Other interior details include false lakes and rivers, locations indigenous tribes, and the Great Wall of China.

Condition: Map is in C+ condition, with light staining top center and several separations that have been repaired with archival materials.
