This impressive set of images shows four engraved scenes and two diagrams pertaining to the island of St. Kitts, also known as Saint Christopher, and the province of Bemarin. At top left, Governor General's palace is shown complete with French royal gardens. Next is a depiction of an indigenous tribe preparing a feast and welcoming party for French soldiers coming ashore. The view at top right depicts Melilot, the mythical capital of Apalache, which were purported to have a utopian kingdom in Georgia and Florida, and to have been the ancestors of the Carib peoples. As Melilot was not found in North America, here it has been transferred to St. Kitts. The bottom three images depict indigenous flora and fauna is exceptional detail.
